The case dragged on for years, with multiple court hearings and appeals. Finally, in 2018, Salman Khan was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. However, he was granted bail soon after, and the case is still pending in the higher court.
The blackbuck, scientifically known as Antilope cervicapra, is a species native to the Indian subcontinent and is listed as an endangered species under the Wildlife Protection Act. The act prohibits the hunting, killing, or possession of blackbucks without proper permits and licenses. The case against Salman Khan and his co-stars brought to light the rampant illegal hunting practices that were prevalent in certain parts of the country.
