Another controversy that shook the nation was the hit-and-run case in 2002. Salman Khan was accused of driving under the influence and running over a group of people sleeping on the pavement, killing one person and injuring four others. The case went through a lengthy trial, with witnesses changing their statements multiple times. In 2015, Salman Khan was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison. However, he appealed the decision, and the sentence was suspended pending further investigation.
