The Shining Plot Summary:
In “The Shining,” horror movie Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as the winter caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado. He moves there with his wife, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, who has a mysterious psychic ability called “the shining” that allows him to see the hotel’s horrifying past. As the winter progresses, Jack becomes increasingly influenced by the supernatural forces within the hotel. He starts having disturbing visions and becomes more aggressive towards his family.
Danny, with his psychic gift, witnesses terrifying events and is warned by the hotel’s previous caretaker, Delbert Grady, about Jack’s potential for violence. As Jack’s sanity deteriorates, he eventually succumbs to the hotel’s malevolent influence and tries to murder Wendy and Danny. In a climactic chase, Wendy and Danny manage to escape the hotel, while Jack, lost in the hotel’s hedge maze, freezes to death. The film concludes with a haunting image of a photograph from 1921, showing Jack among the hotel’s guests, implying that he has become a part of the hotel’s dark history.
