Orphan Plot Summary:
In “Orphan,” horror movie Kate and John Coleman are a couple mourning the loss of their unborn child. They decide to adopt a 9-year-old girl named Esther from a local orphanage. Esther seems polite and mature, but soon strange and alarming events begin to occur. Kate becomes suspicious of Esther’s odd behavior and maturity, which seem unusual for her age. Despite her husband John’s initial disbelief, Kate digs deeper into Esther’s background and uncovers troubling information.
Kate discovers that Esther is not a child at all, but a 33-year-old woman named Leena Klammer who has a rare hormonal disorder that stunts her growth. Leena has spent her life posing as a child, infiltrating families, and causing mayhem. Her real aim is to seduce John and eliminate Kate. As her true identity is revealed, Esther’s behavior becomes increasingly violent. In the climax, a terrifying confrontation ensues, leading to Esther’s death at the hands of Kate, who fights to protect her family from the deranged imposter. The movie ends with the family’s harrowing ordeal coming to a close, leaving them to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
